On Sunday 23 March, resurfacing works on Ward Street will begin. The works will be carried out nightly from 6:30 PM to 6:00 AM
Below are the details of the scheduled work, including a map showing the specific areas affected.
Work Schedule
The resurfacing will be done in sections over multiple nights as follows:
Sunday, 23 March 2025: Ward Street, between 8 Lane Street and Seddon Street (highlighted in red)
Monday, 24 March 2025: Ward Street, between Seddon Street and 29 Ward Street (highlighted in green)
Tuesday, 25 March 2025: Ward Street, between 3 Ward Street and 29 Ward Street (highlighted in blue)
Wednesday, 26 March 2025: Ward Street, road patches on the westbound lane, between Alexander Road and Fergusson Drive (highlighted in yellow)
We’ve chosen to do the work at night to minimise disruption to residents, road users, and the bus network. The scale of the work also makes nighttime operations the most efficient option.
We understand road resurfacing can be noisy. The loudest tasks will be completed by 11:00 PM each night. After that, we’ll take steps to minimise noise and disruption for the remainder of the night, ensuring we meet the same expectations we have set for other network operators.
If work is not completed within the planned timeframe, it will continue the following night. Weather conditions and unforeseen events can cause delays, and if the work is delayed for two nights or more, we’ll notify everyone affected and provide new dates. Signage will be placed ahead of work beginning to keep everyone informed.
Residents will always have access to their properties. However, to ensure safety and keep the work running smoothly, some traffic management will be in place:
Ward Street Access Detour: A one-way system with a detour will direct vehicles via Fergusson Drive, Blenheim Street, and Lane Street.
Traffic Restrictions: Vehicles will be restricted from entering Ward Street from Martin Street, MacLean Street, Seddon Street, and Wilford Street. Traffic will be asked to follow the detour route.
The road will be open with access for all road users, but please note there will be a reduced speed limit in place. We ask that you adhere to this speed limit for everyone’s safety.
Some bus stops may be temporarily relocated during the resurfacing. Please follow the directions of our on-site traffic management team for guidance.
After the resurfacing is complete, we’ll need to return to repaint road markings and raise any service covers if required. If there are vehicles parked on the new surface, we may need to move them to complete this work.
Please refer to the map provided for the detailed areas where the work will take place.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this essential work to improve Ward Street. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.
