What's next?

Successful elected members take up office on the day after the official declaration is publicly notified.

However, before they can make any decisions, elected members must swear an oath of office (declaration). The oath for Mayors and Councillors is made at the first hui of the new council and the oath for board members at the first hui of the community or local board.

Newly elected councillors will then be invited to a Local Government New Zealand Induction hui in the first month of office.
