On 7 August 2024, Upper Hutt City Council met to consider options relating to the representation arrangements that will apply for the 11 October 2025 local government elections.
The consideration of options followed the enactment of the Local Government (Electoral Legislation and Māori Wards and Māori Constituencies) Amendment Act 2024. The Act required Council to either affirm or rescind its decision made on 1 November 2023, to establish one or more Māori wards in Upper Hutt for the 2025 and 2028 local elections.
At this 7 August meeting, Council resolved to rescind its decision on Māori wards.
As a result of this decision, Council decided that existing representation arrangements for the Council would apply for the October 2025 elections.
Accordingly, notice is given that the following representation arrangements for Council will apply for the October 2025 elections.
The Council will continue to comprise 10 councillors, along with the mayor.
The 10 councillors will continue to be elected ‘at-large’ (elected by all voters across the city).
There will continue to be no community boards in Upper Hutt.
For more information about the Council’s representation arrangements, contact Upper Hutt City Council by emailing askus@uhcc.govt.nz or calling (04) 527 2169. The agenda and minutes of the meeting will be available our website's meetings page.
