Akatārawa Cemetery is located just north of Upper Hutt City, set in a peaceful, bush-clad valley. It provides a tranquil setting for remembering and honouring loved ones.

The cemetery serves both Upper Hutt and Lower Hutt communities and is cared for daily by our Cemetery team.

 

 

 

Visitor guidance

Akatārawa Cemetery is a shared space for remembrance and reflection. Visitors are asked to be mindful that services may be taking place and that others may be grieving.

To help keep the cemetery safe and welcoming for everyone:

  • Please keep to designated roads and pathways.
  • Drive carefully. Vehicles must use the designated roads only and follow normal road rules.
  • Be respectful of other visitors.
  • Supervise children at all times.
  • Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead, and waste must be removed.

Location of the cemetery

The Cemetery is located at:

20 Fairview Road
Akatārawa
Upper Hutt (off Fairview Drive)

Opening hours

Gates open daily from 8am to 6pm.

During daylight saving seasons, gates close at 8pm.

Service hours

Services include funerals, interments, ash scatterings, unveilings, and disinterments.

Services take place at scheduled times during the week.

If you are visiting the cemetery during these times and come across a service in progress, please be respectful and keep noise to the minimum. This helps ensure families can hold their service in privacy and without interruption.

Service booking hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 10am – 5pm
  • Saturday: 10am – 1pm

No services are held on public holidays.

If you are attending a service, please check the confirmed time with the funeral director or organiser.

Toilets are located behind the office at the far end of the cemetery, and near the Crematorium.
