Grants available from EECA

You may be eligible for a grant for up to 90% off insulation or an energy efficient heat pump, thanks to EECA’s Warmer Kiwi Homes grants.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Owner occupier in house built before 2008
  • If you don’t have ceiling / underfloor insulation, you can apply for an insulation grant.

If you have insulation, but no heating (from a heat pump, wood or pellet burner, flued gas heater or central heating system), you can apply for a heating grant.

Increase energy efficiency

There are a range of ways you can increase your home’s efficiency to be warmer, drier, more sustainable, and pay less on your bills. Some are even easy to implement yourself! Have a look at the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority website for some top tips on the most common improvements that can be made to a home’s efficiency.

Borrow a Home Energy Audit Toolkit (HEAT kit)

The Central Library has a HEAT kit available for library members to borrow for free.  The kits contain a set of do-it-yourself tools and instructions to help you assess your home in terms of warmth, dampness, and energy efficiency.  Each HEAT kit contains:

  • A hygrometer to measure the temperature and humidity of your home.
  • A power meter to measure the costs and amount of power your appliances use.
  • A stopwatch to measure your shower flow rate.
  • An infrared thermometer to assess any heat loss through walls, windows and ceilings; air leaks in the fridge; the water temperature and hot water cylinder.
  • A wood moisture meter to assess how dry your firewood is
  • An instruction booklet with tips and tricks for you to keep.
