Trains

The Hutt Valley Line runs through the centre of Upper Hutt, offering direct rail services to Lower Hutt and Wellington. Driving to and from Upper Hutt

Upper Hutt is easy to reach by car and well-connected to key transport routes in the Wellington region.

Located on State Highway 2 (SH2), Upper Hutt is just a 25-minute drive to Wellington City via a dual-lane road. Access to State Highway 1 and the Porirua Basin is available through the Haywards Hill Interchange (SH2/SH58), located just south of the city. The state highways are part of the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA)'s network of roads connecting regions.

The city is:

  • 30 km from the Port of Wellington (approx.35 minutes by car)
  • 35 km from Wellington Airport (approx. 45 minutes by car)

We have plenty of free time-limited parking around the city centre and all-day park-and-ride parking at our train stations for public transport users.
