As the first light of dawn breaks and the stars of Matariki shine above, we gather in remembrance, reflection, and renewal.
Join Ōrongomai Marae for a Matariki Puanga dawn ceremony, as we welcome the Māori New Year.
Together, we will honour those who have passed since the last rising of Matariki, reflect on the year that has been, and look ahead to the opportunities and aspirations of the year to come. This gathering offers an opportunity to experience the traditions and meaning of Matariki within the warmth of community.
Through karakia, shared kōrero, connection with one another, and a mihi whakatau in the wharenui, we mark this significant time in the Māori calendar and acknowledge the enduring relationship between people, whenua, and the stars.
All are welcome to attend. We encourage you to bring along a potluck shared breakfast for after the ceremony.
