  • Members for Greater Wellington Regional Council

Anyone can stand as a candidate if they:

  • Are a New Zealand citizen; and

  • Are over 18; and

  • Are enrolled to vote

About elected representatives

Elected representatives have an important role. They have a say in how to shape the future of Upper Hutt for the better and make decisions about the way the city works. They’re responsible for representing our community and for how the community is governed. They’re also expected to uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi – The Treaty of Waitangi.

Elected representatives are guided by the best interests of the city and are a voice for the individuals and organisations of Upper Hutt. They make decisions based on the current and future needs of our residents and ensure that all voices are heard.

Nomination process

Candidate nominations are open until 12pm on 12 August.

If you want to nominate yourself as an elected representative, you need to:

  • Complete an official nomination form and send it to our electoral officer.

  • Get nominations from two people. Candidates cannot nominate themselves, and those who nominate candidates must be over 18 years old and enrolled to vote in Upper Hutt.

  • Consent to your nomination going forward.

  • Pay a $200 deposit, which may be refunded depending on election results.
