2022-2023 Sustainability Stimulus Grant recipients announced

We’ve just completed the second funding round for our Sustainability Stimulus Grant And the recipients have been announced.

We created this grant in 2021 to help fund sustainable projects that align with the themes of our Sustainability Strategy and benefit Upper Hutt. This year, we received 20 applications.

In May, the panel met and distributed $127,950 across seven projects. This year’s recipients are:

  • Rubber Solutions Asia Pacific LTD: Funding from this round will be used to increase their capacity to recycle used tyre tread.
  • The Good Carbon Farm: Funding will be used to begin producing biochar from surplus forestry slash in Akatārawa Valley
  • Pinehaven Tennis Club Incorporated: Initiative to replace their floodlights with LED equivalents.
  • Friends of Mawaihakona Stream: Initiative to restore indigenous biodiversity along the stream, through riparian planting.
  • Pest Free Upper Hutt: Funding from this round will go to further their pest eradication programme.
  • 4 A Better City Trust (Mahinga Kai) funding received from this round will go towards their next stage of their urban farm.
  • Urban Edge Planning Limited:  Initiative to create a sustainable landscape design guide, a free resource for the whole community.
