About Welcoming Week
Te Wiki o Manaaki or Welcoming Week was initiated in 2012 to celebrate the values behind the Welcoming Communities initiatives. Through local events and initiatives, Welcoming Week brings together the vibrant tapestry of our New Zealand community—long-time residents and newcomers alike. We believe in the power of fostering mutual understanding, forging stronger connections, and nurturing a deeper sense of belonging.

AOTEAROA: A MOSAIC OF CULTURES
Aotearoa proudly stands as one of the most diverse nations, boasting over 200 different ethnicities. It's a place where cultures intertwine, and traditions are shared. Our strength lies in our diversity, creating a dynamic and enticing tapestry that makes us an attractive and inviting place to call home.
OUR UNITY IN DIVERSITY
Did you know that a quarter of all people who call New Zealand home were born overseas? This rich blend of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences enriches our community and injects vitality into our shared experiences.
During Welcoming Week, we celebrate these qualities and embrace two vital Māori principles:
- Whanaungatanga: The essence of relationships that bind us together as a community.
- Manaakitanga: A process of respect, generosity, and care for one another.
