Upper Hutt City Council is seeking an experienced Assets Team Leader to provide strategic and technical leadership across our infrastructure asset portfolio.
This is a key leadership position that plays a pivotal role in ensuring our city’s infrastructure is well planned, well managed, and fit for the future.
About the role
As Assets Team Leader, you’ll:
- Lead and co-ordinate the assets team delivering strategic asset management outcomes.
- Lead the enhancement of and implementation of asset management frameworks, policies, systems, and processes.
- Drive data quality, information management, and predictive asset planning to support long-term investment decisions.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver an integrated, evidence-based approach to managing Council’s infrastructure assets.
- Provide leadership in optimising annual work programmes for maintenance and capital works.

What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who is proactive, systematic and outcome-focused.
- A strong people leader with proven ability to manage and motivate technical teams.
- Experienced in infrastructure asset management and strategic planning.
- Skilled in asset information systems (such as Univerus Assets, Asset and Work Manager, or similar) and data analysis.
- Confident in building strong partnerships across Council, contractors, and the community.
- Adaptable, innovative, and proactive in driving improvement and best practice.
You’ll have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification (essential).
- Postgraduate qualifications or extensive experience in asset management, project management or programming (advantageous).
- Demonstrated understanding of asset management frameworks, strategic planning, and infrastructure management systems.
